I love this. I know it is important to people, but I do hate all those posts celebrating xxx new subscribers, or totals, even those who are new and asking for people to subscribe. People will find their tribe, and I would much rather my tribe were small but mighty, than numerous and meaningless. Keep going and thank you 😎👍
Thank you for reading, Helen! Each their tribe indeed 🙌🏻 I like to celebrate some milestones as well, but when it becomes the pure focus, the fun goes away!
We write because we want people to read. So, if subscribers and views don't grow, or decrease, we are doing something wrong (especially if we aren't established, yet)
But focusing only on the metrics leads to wrong decisions.
Good decision to focus on process goals. But don't forget the performance goals (ie growth).
Just look at them less frequently and don't make decision ONLY to grow the metrics. Keep in mind your values and vision too.
It is a brain teaser! Looking at the numbers less is very important. I used to obsess about them, now not so much anymore. But combining the two is indeed a good way forward!
Oh Marie, I enjoyed reading this post a lot and to me, you are still writing about building an online business - from all aspects of life, not matter how slowly this takes. I know people working on building their dream house for more than 8 years now.
Just keep going and I am super curious about the video content you will do. And can I just say again how cute this picture of Lola and you is?
I like your "new view"! And getting a Moccamaster ... wow! As a coffee snob, everyone I know raves about its brew process and considers it one of the best brews in the world 🙌🏻
Happy for you Marie. I'm glad you're finding your place. Finding yourself and loving yourself is more important than finding subscribers. If there's no you, there's no subscribers. Cheers, and keep going.
Hey Marie, I’m glad you have found a new goal. I am/was in a similar situation, thinking about my newsletter’s next phase and direction.
I have a hard time finding what results are worth measuring. Until now, I counted subscribers as a proxy for measuring my skill to organize and deliver my thoughts and ideas coherently, and it served me well. I also counted the number of published issues as a proxy for consistency, and I’m satisfied.
But now I have to take a step back and ask myself what I want to achieve, what is the value I want to change — the outcome, even if it’s vague or complicated. When I have an answer, I know I can experiment with different actions — the outputs, and enjoy the process.
I really loved this. And I really love your newsletters. I don't know how you do it - you always seem to be authentic and connected to yourself, at any cost. It's so so inspiring to me. thank you
From a subscriber’s perspective, I think you may be on the right track by producing some video content along with writing. Usually, people sign up for paid subscription for two reasons - needs based on personal goals and /or perceived benefits. There is a third possibility, which is a fan-based subscription. I did sign up for something that does not offer tangible rewards but gives me a sense of participation by supporting someone for a good cause.
I really enjoy your writing because it’s fun to read. I also admire your courage and transparency in sharing how challenging this journey could be. Perhaps, you could consider raising funds or increasing your paid subscription by turning this into a fan club for you. Count me in as your first fan.
THIS!!! Thank you for saying this. After over 40 weeks of writing my history Travel newsletter I just stopped. I couldn’t face it anymore because I felt like I wasn’t getting any recognition for it (even though it gave me joy) because, you know, I wanted to earn a living writing and no one on my list became a paid subscriber, even though I’d get amazing feedback on how much they loved what I was writing. It felt like failure so I quit! Lol
But I miss it and am just starting to feel like I need to start again.
Ooh I get you Michelle! Getting subscribers is one thing, but paid subscribers is a whole other thing!! Really, not easy!!
You should start again, definitely if you notice you miss it, listen to that inner voice 🧡 but maybe not focus on the paid subs 😊 (easier said then done... I know!)

PS: I think I’d like a new coffee machine too!
Your words and honest thoughts are resonating! Feels very connected with you,
That’s the power of words! Keep writing as your heart wishes to❤️
Thank you 🧡🙏🏻
What counts is that you enjoy the process. No point writing about stuff that you don't enjoy yourself, no matter how many subscribers it'll get you.

Exactly this 🙌🏻 thank you Sophie 🧡
Just keep going where the wind blows you with your writing. ;)
Will do Alexis 🧡🧡
And in general.
It's a brain teaser, isn't it?

Great read, Marie! Yes, keep going !!
Life takes us on many paths- enjoy them all. 🌻🌻🌻

Well, it was recommended to me by a good friend and coffee snob 😁 I'm very happy with it!!
Love this for you!
Thank you Allison 🧡

That’s such a beautiful framing Isabella, ‘if there’s no you, there’s no subscribers’ or anything else for that matter. Thank you 🙏 🧡

Thank you Alex. Your last lines are the most important 🧡

Thank you Elizabeth, for you super kind words! Means a lot 🧡🧡
Always best to honour the shifts we feel are coming instead of writing for trends, numbers and expectations 👏💖
Exactly Carmen 🙌🏻🧡
